GAMSTOP: one registration, every licensed site
Every online gambling operator licensed by the Gambling Commission has had to participate in GAMSTOP, the free online self-exclusion scheme, since 31 March 2020. Its terms of use set the minimum periods you can choose at registration: six months, one year, five years, or five years with automatic renewal. GAMSTOP says it generally activates a self-exclusion within 24 hours. When the minimum period ends the block does not lift on its own: you have to contact GAMSTOP and complete its removal process, with a cooling-off period of at least 24 hours.
Limits the law already sets
Since 9 April 2025 the maximum stake on an online slot is £5 per game cycle for adults aged 25 or over, and since 21 May 2025 it is £2 for adults aged 18 to 24. The limits apply to online slots only, not to roulette or blackjack (Gambling Commission guidance). Since 19 January 2026 licensed operators cannot attach wagering requirements of more than 10 times to a bonus, and promotions that make you play two or more types of gambling (for example betting and slots) to unlock them are banned (Gambling Commission).
Age
Inviting, causing or permitting a child or young person to gamble is an offence under section 46 of the Gambling Act 2005. Online casino play and betting with a licensed operator are for adults aged 18 and over.
